Throw out the predictions and estimates of recent analysts, Activision has today released the sales figures for both North America and the United Kingdom. Though this doesn’t include figures for the rest of Europe or Australia and Asia, it does give you enough proof that Modern Warfare 2 is indeed the biggest selling title of all time (for day one).

According to the financial report sourced below, Modern Warfare 2 sold approximately 4.7 million copies in the two regions on day one alone. This makes Schachter’s estimate of seven million units worldwide all the more likely. This number also shatters the record previously held by Grand Theft Auto IV, which sold a meager 3.6 million in comparison.

I think the question remains — how many more would have been sold without the mass boycott? I’m going to predict a little over 8 million. I’m sure Activision isn’t crying over it though.
