A popular fantasy RPG has received a remaster for the PlayStation 5. Players will be happy to know that the update comes free of charge and is available now.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt received an update on qualifying platforms today, as revealed by CD Projekt Red on August 25, 2026. The update is available for players on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is also set to be released on Nintendo Switch 2 and Battle.net. It includes enhancements made to gameplay, performance, and visuals. According to the publisher, other aspects of the game have received improvements too.
What’s new in The Witcher 3’s remastered upgrade for PlayStation players
Jakub Kutrzuba, executive producer of external projects at CD Projekt Red, revealed exactly what fans can expect when it comes to the Remaster. Kutrzuba stated that players can expect more than just performance upgrades for the game.
He mentioned that the goal of bringing these updates was to make the gameplay as smooth as possible for players. This means that the team interrogated every system and feature, with the objective of revamping it, without having to build the game from scratch.
He continued, “We went through all of them and asked ourselves, ‘What can we do about it, without rebuilding the game from scratch?’ And we have changed a lot… the game just plays smoother, you know? There’s no immersion-breakers anymore, I would say.”

Other improvements to the game, especially in terms of visuals, include rendering parallelization, ray-traced hair, a new shading model, other ray tracing improvements, foliage shading rework, refreshed motion blur, refined animations, an expanded photomode, and other general updates to visuals.
Gameplay-wise, players can also expect a slew of improvements, including enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, revamped mount handling, transmogrification, new combat finishers, looting rework, new quest tracking, tutorial modernization, a revamped skill tree, and improved monster behaviour.
This update comes ahead of the release of another expansion for The Witcher 3, which will launch in 2027. Players can wishlist The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past now. In the expansion, fans will journey to a new location, Letten, which is described by the developer as an “idyllic land of rural tradition that hides a dark secret just below the surface.”
