A beloved title from Telltale has received a release date for its PlayStation 5 remaster. The Wolf Among Us is all set to take players back to Fabletown on October 29, 2026. The game is inspired by the graphic novel Fables by Bill Willingham.
Matt Saia, the director of the game and VP of Creative at Telltale, revealed the updates that the game has received. He also talked about the aspects of the game that the team chose not to change.
How Telltale rebuilt The Wolf Among Us while preserving what fans loved
When asked what the goal of remastering The Wolf Among Us was, Saia said that it was about honoring Telltale’s legacy. He further stated that the game was for new players as much as it was for long-time fans.
He said, “The goal is to introduce new players to Wolf in the best way possible and create a fun experience for returning players by packing it with updated art and behind-the-scenes features. Ultimately, it was a love letter to fans. We’re all fans, and we took time to make sure it is the best version of The Wolf Among Us that stays true to the original.”
The update also includes extra features that can enhance the game’s story. One such feature is a Noir mode. Technical improvements include moving the game to the engine that Telltale used for its Batman games. Improvements also included updated shaders and inverted lines on moving objects.
Saia also revealed that lighting for each scene in the game had to be redone. This was due to the changes that were made to each scene, which required the art to be retouched to match the updated visuals.
The team also remastered the game’s character art while maintaining a delicate balance. They wanted the art to look more refined, but did not want the characters to look radically different. Textures and models for the characters are new and refined in the update. Each character went from concept art to high-end model to in-game model.
Matt Saia revealed that the idea with the remaster was for old fans to believe that they were in “good hands.” He also wanted newer players to feel that they were experiencing the best version of the story.
