PS5 owners can now play one of last year’s celebrated sci-fi shooters released on other platforms. Ghost Ship Publishing has finally released Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor on PlayStation after a year of Xbox exclusivity. The new game is a spin-off of the Deep Rock Galactic franchise, bringing its chaotic combat to the bullet heaven auto-shooter genre.
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, as the name suggests, was inspired by Vampire Survivors. In it, players venture deep into the mines while fighting hordes of Hoxxes. At the time of writing, the game has scored 86 on Metacritic based on the PC version’s reviews.
What makes Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor different from other bullet heaven games
Unlike other bullet heaven games, Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor requires players to actively interact with the environment in new ways. In most bullet heaven games, the map is mostly static, with players only having to worry about their positioning. In Survivor, players have to contend with digging through rocks to hide from enemies within procedurally generated levels.
Following every round, players have to use the collected resources to upgrade their weapons. As an auto-shooter, players don’t need to worry about aiming and firing said weapons.
Players can buy Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor for $12.99 on the PlayStation Store. Besides that, there are several paid DLCs that can be bought, such as the following:
- Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor – After Hours Pack ($4.99)
- Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor – Heavy Duty Expansion ($9.99)
- Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor – Supporter Pack ($4.99)
The Heavy Duty Expansion adds a new class called the Demolisher. Using that, players can operate a fully weaponized industrial vehicle called the Rockdozer. It also adds a new biome, Glacial Strata, along with a new mission type called Egg Hunt. In that mode, players need to collect alien eggs and have Bosco deliver them to a central cargo. Doing so results in spawning a Brood Nexus, which triggers a multi-phase boss fight with impressive rewards.
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is available now on PS5. The game was previously available on PC, mobile, and Xbox.
