Japanese Retailer Spills Beans on New PS3 Model

A new PS3 model is expected to be released by Sony. A Japanese retailer is saying that the CECH-3000B, will apparently update and replace the current 320 GB PS3 systems once those are sold out. The price will remain the same, but there will be some design changes such as:

  • Weight reduced from 6.6 pounds to 5.7 pounds.
  • Power consumption cut from 230 watts to 200 watts.
  • External detail changes to power, eject buttons, LED lamps.

The PlayStation 3 was originally launched in Japan on November 11, 2006 and in North America on November 17, 2006 with two SKUs: a 20 GB version and a 60 GB version. During the course of 2007, Sony announced several new PlayStation 3 SKUs and discontinued others. In August 2009, all previous models were discontinued, as the new PS3 Slims were released.
