Sony Online Entertainment’s latest MMORPG DC Universe Online has really hit its stride since going free-to-play earlier this month. First came news that one million new players had joined the super-powered fray, and now we learn that the game is exponentially more profitable — a 700 percent increase in daily revenue, to be exact.

SOE President John Smedley happily took to his Twitter account to post that news, along with a bunch of other interesting tidbits. That daily revenue increase is split 53/47 between PS3 and PC, respectively; DCUO‘s player base is increasing 6 percent a day; more than 85 percent of daily logins are returning players; and the two most popular marketplace items are additional character slots and the Vanguard of the Heavens character skins.

Those are some damn encouraging statistics, and it makes me wonder if we’ll see more companies think about releasing FTP MMO’s on consoles in the future.

  1. Now that’s some great news. F2P definitely seems like the way to go. Still haven’t gotten around to trying this though.
