A popular PS4 action-adventure game in a beloved franchise has returned as a free PlayStation 5 upgrade. Developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K, the title originally came out in 2016.
Mafia III: Definitive Edition is now available at no extra cost for PS5 users who currently own a physical or digital version of Mafia III: Definitive Edition on PlayStation 4. Although the open-world game arrived over a decade ago, it was relaunched in 2020 with all the story DLCs.
However, the latest free upgrade for PS5 adds many new improvements, including support for 60 FPS gameplay.
What to expect from Mafia III’s free PS5 upgrade and 60 FPS gameplay?
Mafia III: Definitive Edition now offers 60 FPS gameplay for a smoother experience than older versions. While the action plays out faster, certain cinematic scenes still play at 30 FPS because they are pre-rendered movies.
The free PlayStation 5 upgrade includes the main game and all story expansions, including Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, and Sign of the Times. Bonus Packs, titled the Family Kick-Back Pack and the Judge, Jury & Executioner Weapons Pack, are bundled together.
As for technical improvements, the developer fixed issues related to Trophy and Achievement tracking. Players can track all their accomplishments accurately. Story mission progression has also been improved. Players won’t get stuck at specific checkpoints, cutscenes, and objectives anymore.
AI and NPC behavior have also improved for select combat encounters and world events. Navigation has improved, with better accuracy for the map, waypoint, and objective icon across various missions. Menu and control prompt display reliability has also improved during tutorials. Further, the developer also fixed issues with unintended texture and lighting behavior.
Mafia III: Definitive Edition is now available for PS5. Additionally, players who already own Mafia: The Omertà Collection can also enjoy it for free as part of a four-game bundle.
