Garbage Games that Clutter your HDD

But once you’re finished playing it, remember to delete the data from your HDD, lest anyone comes over and sees that you ever played it.

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty – 2.52 GB

During its development, I was pretty intrigued by Turning Point. As interesting as I find World War II, I’m always that much more interested in alternate realities that people have dreamt up – the Resistance series, for example. I was ready to kick some Nazi ass all over New York City.

Instead we were treated to a pile of hot garbage. I don’t know how you make a full-scale Nazi invasion of the largest US city boring, but the folks at Spark Unlimited found a way. Bland levels, bland characters, and a bland story were bad enough, but the game separate from all of that wasn’t any fun to play. The controls sucked and the multiplayer is best described as empty – only Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, and no one to play it with.

Perhaps the 2.5 gigs was used for the game to make itself a big enough room to cry itself to sleep in.

Planet 51 – 3.101 GB

Are. You. Kidding me?

I’m aware that this is licensed drivel for kids and is therefore an easy target, but 3+ gigs? I looked at other licensed stuff like Hannah Montana, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and whatnot, but at worst those games took a few MBs. I guess the developers of those games know that most kids probably aren’t checking and deleting stuff from their hard drives and don’t weigh them down with needless clutter, but the Planet 51 devs obviously didn’t get the memo.

I mean, what the hell could the install possibly be needed for? The game was awful! It’s entirely excusable to have bought this game for your niece or nephew, but for the love of all that is good, delete this block of worthless crap off their PS3 when they’re done with it.

I can’t even believe I was able to talk that much about Planet 51, so I think it’s high time to end this feature. Any other worthless games clogging up your PS3 HDD, dear reader?

  1. Why would Quantum Theory even be on your HDD?

  2. @TRF — Morbid curiosity —> Mandatory install —> RAGE.

  3. I loved Socom: Confrontation. Don’t own it anymore but after getting used to the game I really loved it, and I had the best online teamwork experience on Confrontation over any other game.

  4. one of my games: heawenly sword takes 4 gb to instal, but since the game is great i dont mind
o and i dont understand what made you dislike socom confrontation

  5. You could probably add The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to this list. It takes up a ridonkulous 5GB of space and, while not being complete crap, isn’t half as good as some of the other RPG’s this gen (Final Fantasy, Demon’s Souls, White Knight Chronicles, Dragon Age).

  6. My God, Planet 51! Why does a movie game need so much space? Maybe there’s a secret game in those 5 gigs worth playing.

  7. @DJ — I’m gonna have to guess “no”.

  8. yes socom was a punch it the balls
