Guerilla Games is on the offense, assuring gamers that hacks and glitches imposed on Killzone 3 will be combated. However, the discussion isn’t all happy talk; Guerrilla’s Steven Ter Heide shows that Guerilla Games recognizes the threat such hacks impose on the Killzone 3 experience.
“We’ve seen the cheats that are possible in other games. Our biggest concern is that one person is able to ruin other peoples’ experience. That’s something we need to clamp down on.”
Heide also mentioned that gamers who abuse Killzone 3’s rules through hacking could receive a ban from the PlayStation Network. Though Sony has been coy in terms of curbing hacking on other massive FPS titles such as Call of Duty, it seems they’re not planning on letting hackers ruin their flagship FPS. According to Heide, Sony also cracked down on hackers within Killzone 2’s multiplayer.
“From our end we’re constantly monitoring what is happening in the games and we’ll try and plug holes that people start abusing. We’ll make sure that those people don’t get a place in the Killzone universe.”
“But specifically going against cheats and seeing if people are using aimbots or activating a god mode, from a code perspective we can make those changes, and we can monitor the data that’s being pushed through. Say a person’s stats are abnormal, we can take action, release a patch or update something to make it a lot harder for them to actually perform those things.”
Clearly, Guerilla Games knows what they’re up against, and is prepared to curb hacking to the best of their ability. As hacking becomes more prominent in gaming, we’re seeing more and more developers go on the offense; assuring that hackers do not ruin the gaming experience for legitimate players.
Killzone 3 will be releasing February 22 (NA), February 23 (EU), and February 25 (UK).
Go Guerilla Games! If the demo is great and if they manage to curb hackers presence in Killzone 3, I’ll for sure get the game. This my friend is serious efforts into stopping online from being ruined.
Next to BS online trophies and achievements this is what makes me hate online play. I don’t come across them that much and usually restart when I encounter them though.
