A legendary singer has a surprising misunderstanding about GTA 6, despite having a song featured in the game. The musician thought the highly anticipated title was a TV game show.
Cliff Richard‘s 1976 hit “Devil Woman” was featured in the GTA VI: An Extended Look presentation. It was also featured in the game’s extended look, which streamed on Netflix. Yet Richard appeared unfamiliar with the GTA franchise’s format.
Speaking to The Times, Richard appeared confused about the franchise, asking, “The show is a game show, isn’t it, really? One of the biggest on TV?”
“Devil Woman” stands out in Richard’s catalog for its darker tone. He is also known for songs such as “Congratulations,” his 1968 Eurovision entry, and the festive hit “Mistletoe and Wine.”
Cliff Richard’s GTA 6 cameo is having an unexpected impact
A report found that streams of the track surged during the week GTA VI: An Extended Look was released. “Devil Woman” rose from approximately 96,000 weekly streams to more than 1 million during the week of the presentation, according to the report. Richard gained 230,501 monthly Spotify listeners in the week after the presentation, a 12.5% increase that brought his total to approximately 2.07 million.
Despite his apparent confusion about the franchise, Richard welcomed the renewed interest in his music. He said, “People will no longer just say, ‘Oh, Cliff Richard is from the past.’ Because I am, but that past is what makes everything what it is today.”
Richard has had a long career, having been active in the music scene for close to 65 years. During his time as a pop culture icon, he delivered several rock and roll hits, such as “Move It” in 1958 and “Living Doll” in 1959
GTA VI is all set to launch on November 19, 2026. It will be the first new mainline Grand Theft Auto game since GTA V, released in 2013. It will launch on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
