After years of silence, a controversial PS5 game has reappeared on the PlayStation Store, prompting fans to start theorizing. Blue Box Game Studios’ Abandoned is back on the digital store, now known as Abandoned Prologue. The new listing also shows a 2027 release window, inviting much speculation from PS5 owners.
The store update was spotted by multiple users on X, including user J Stone Owns. In the comments, users noted that while the page itself has remained active, a new background image and the updated 2027 release date were recent additions.
The long & controversial road to Abandoned’s return
Abandoned was first announced by Blue Box founder Hasan Kahraman on the PlayStation Blog in 2021. The announcement teased a first-person survival horror game, which many players connected to the aesthetics of Silent Hill.
At the time, a PS5 app called Abandoned Realtime Experience was also released for free. The app included a short teaser video and tabs for more trailers and marketing materials.
Kahraman said at the time that the app was designed to be a hub for the game’s marketing. However, all mentions of the game were removed from social media, and Blue Box refused to comment on the matter.
Some users also theorized that it may be a new game from Hideo Kojima, under the cover of a new game studio. This was denied by Kojima, with Kahraman later thanking the Japanese developer for the revelation. A detailed report in 2022 revealed that the game never really existed, allegedly due to a lack of funding for the project.
Earlier this year, ResetEra users, via GameSpot, spotted Kahraman linking a project titled Abandoned: Gospels of Blood to his profile. It remains uncertain whether Abandoned will ever see a full release, though PS5 owners can currently add the title to their PlayStation Store wishlist.
