Ninja Theory thinks exclusivity is hard to handle

You guys remember Ninja Theory, correct? Developers behind one of my favorite PlayStation 3 exclusives, Heavenly Sword. Well, since they’ve announced their next project, Enslaved, as a multiplatform title, it seems they’ve felt the need to explain how hard it is for a developer to create an exclusive title. I’ve included a couple of quotes below from a recent interview the developer conducted with Eurogamer.

“When you are exclusive, sometimes the pressure to demonstrate technology can override other aspects of game development,” studio co-fouder Tameem Antoniades told Eurogamer. “Being involved in one side of a format war as if it’s the machines that make great games can also be draining.

“You get a lot of attention as an exclusive developer which is great, but on the flip side there was a lot of anti-Sony feeling going on which I felt was unfairly being directed at our team.

“Our focus is now on building as compelling a game as we can and I am more comfortable with that,” he added.

Now, to me, this sounds like some kid running home to mom after school in order to tell her that not everyone in his/her class likes them. Is this guy serious? So, they chose not to develop exclusively for Sony this time around because they wanted to be liked more by a larger group of gamers. Isn’t that nice?

  1. going multiplatform so that the anti sony gamers wont hate them?
why doesent he just tell the truth. that they wana make more money

  2. This is a business. Businesses need money to survive. It’s as simple as that.

Can’t wait to actually see some footage from their new game.

  3. I agree Nick/K-Grim. It is about money and they need money to survive. They should say that though, not go with this garbage.

  4. Well, maybe with some extra money they could make a longer game this time 😛

  5. This is rediculously stupid of them, I have lost respect for them and will not pick up their next game.

  6. pretty obvious that they want money

  7. @NINJA WHAT! — Why won’t you pick up their next game? What if it’s a GOTY contender?

There’s no need to get emotionally involved with a business to the point that you refuse to buy their games because of what they say about exclusivity. That’s pointless.

  8. @NINJA WHAT!
You could always get a used copy. That way it doesn’t support the developer. That’s what I’m doing for MW2(that is if i actually find a bit more interest in it)

Your analysis of these quotes, to me, sounds like a dipshit with his head up his ass trying to chime in with an opinion on his amateur-hour videogame website. Just stick to posting in forums until you have something more intelligent to say.

  10. This game will not be as good as it should be that’s why, I am totally disappointing with them and their fake ass excuse to go multiplatform.

  11. this is funny. the person who wrote the article sounds butthurt that one of his favourite game developers is going to the xbox please fix me. sad, but u sux men

  12. Ninja Theory stop making excuses, just say you want more money!
