Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath currently exclusive to PSN

Today on the official blog for developer Just Add Water, the studio announced that the HD remastered version of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath will only be available on the PlayStation Network for the time being. The reason given for this change of plan is due to the size limitation Microsoft imposes on its service, Xbox Live Arcade. Despite efforts to curve the problem, ADW states that Oddworld rings in at 2.1GB, which is 100MBs over the 2GB limit Microsoft currently has set.

“Now with regard to Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath on the 360 there are a number of factors that are currently sitting in our way to announce a 360 version of the title, whilst we can’t go into all the details, what I can say is we are working with Microsoft to get the title on that platform, however the final decision is NOT ours,” said the company.

“One thing we can discuss in regard to the 360 version is the size of the game. On XBLA there is a 2GB size limit we have to adhere to, currently the title weighs in at 2.1GB and that is without any updates, so either we have to pull a miracle out of the bag with some type of amazing compression system, or ask Microsoft to increase their 2GB limit, however this limit is apparently hardware led, so please let us try and make a miracle happen.”

In all honesty, this is nothing short of ridiculous and Microsoft should and probably will overturn this decision as soon as possible. However, if it chooses to lose out on the title, it proves that releasing an arcade SKU of the 360 was probably a mistake and Microsoft should have done more to increase the HDD percentage in its home consoles.

  1. to me this makes no sence
on xbla you can download full 360 games on to youre hdd,
but you cant download an arcade game bigger than 2gb?

  2. lol @ MS not allowing anything over 2GBs, not getting this over 100mb just just dumb.
Anyways, I love Oddworld and plan on getting this on the PSN.

  3. Let me get this straight. Micro$oft is screwing over all of our multiplatform games because of the limited space of DVD, making developers cut content to make the games “equal” but later charging us for that content and now limiting downloadable games to only 2 gb!!! Who the hell put them in charge of my games!?

My mistake. The 2 gb limit is only for the 360. It must really suck to be a 360 gamer/fan and having to pay more for mediocrity. But we are all still getting screwed over by Micro$oft. Who put them in charge of our games?
