Pachter: Move pricing is too high

Pachter is once more going out of his way to give his opinion on a subject that most of us don’t really care about. Today, Pachter is discussing how he feels Sony’s PlayStation Move is priced far too high for the average consumer to truly latch on. Of course, most gamers in the “know” have already figured out that neither Microsoft or Sony is going to put a dent into Nintendo’s market share in the motion control department. However, Pachter will still serve his opinion as news and we’ll still pass it along to you.

“If purchased as part of a bundle, the all-in cost to play with Move will approach $180, which we think is beyond the reach of the typical household. We think that Sony’s Move is truly impressive, but remain concerned that initial sales could disappoint.”

No kidding, Pachter…no kidding.

It’s probably worth noting that the nunchuck attachment (or whatever the heck Sony is calling it) is NOT necessary though. People can simply use their existing PS3 controller instead, as was shown in the Resident Evil 5 demo a while back. Uncomfortable maybe (most people will play it sitting down, hand resting on their lap anyway), but sure hurts the wallet a little bit less.

How did he come up with 180$ though? Isn’t the bundle 100$ which includes the Move wand itself, a PS Eye and a game?

    Such fail.

  3. Patcher is the one that’s high, lol xD

  4. Oooooh I see it now: he is taking into account that you buy two move controllers. So that’s 100 for the bundle, 30 for the navigation controller and 50 for the extra move.

And I find that rather inaccurate. I don’t think there’s anyone out there that’s going to buy 2 move controllers right away. And there was a major relief from gamers when we found out that the navigation controller is optional, making the entry price for the move just a 100 bucks.

  5. a move and navigation controler costs 80

a motion plus controler and a nunchuck costs 80

    expencive?

a wii is expencive considering its a gamecube with motion controls

  6. Christ knows what he thinks of Kinect, then. And at least Move works!

Well guys, if you think about it. It is expensive. You need two Move controllers to play the archery in Sports Champions – you need a Move and navigation controller to play the gladiators game. The Sports Champion Move bundle only comes with one Move controller and the PSEye – that’s $100 and you can’t even play 2 of the 6 games on it.

  8. @ max for all the Move it will cost $130 before taxes .

  9. I could go for a cheaper set of motion controllers, but $180 isn’t the worst thing in the world.

  10. M$ should have told him to keep the facial hair to hide the stretch marks, I’m just saying.

Right… I keep forgetting you need 2 controllers for certain games. Thankfully I don’t give a crap about those but I can see how it is expensive… not to mention how confusing it’ll be when people buy the bundle but then realize they still can’t play most of its games.

  12. Wow this is a great resource.. I’m enjoying it.. good article
