Sucker Punch’s last release, inFamous, was a great looking title, but if you watched Sony’s E3 Press Conference you’d know that the sequel is set to take it to the next level. According to Brian Flemming, one of the studio’s co-founders, the development team has Sony’s SPUs to thank for the possibilities. Apparently, Flemming believes that the SPUs are “total monsters” for development.
“Compare this [Infamous 2] to the last game,” studio co-founder Brian Fleming. “It’s frickin’ unbelievable how far we’ve come. It’s crazy how much we’ve been able to get out of it [the PS3]. It’s crazy how much more we’re able to do.
“Is future proof the word I would use? I don’t know. The future is always coming and coming and coming. But we’re four years in and working on this and we are still getting a lot more out of it; almost five years in on working on the PS3, still getting tons more out of it.”
Of course, it doesn’t stop there and Flemming almost goes as far as to state that the PlayStation 3 is future proof, but holds off on that claim just yet.
“The SPUs kick ass,” he said.
“Move your shit there! The SPUs are just total monsters. You just have to move more and more and more and more and more stuff there. We have post-processing graphics passes going on in the SPUs. We have more particle stuff, more collision and physics stuff going on in there. They’re unbelievable. At some point everybody figures out most of the big stuff,” he said.
“But we’re still figuring out big stuff. There was a check-in today – I sent a mail about it – that was great. There was a big improvement in the performance of our light renderers – that was another thing we figured out, today. Bill Rockenbeck [programmer] back at the office – kudos to Bill by the way – he made a great check-in today taking advantage of some new stuff that we hadn’t figured out before.”
All of this excitement from the development team has me ready to get my hands on inFamous 2…it’s such a shame that it’s so far away right now. Hopefully as more media is released of the title, we can see exactly how much change really has occurred from one game to the next through trailers and screens. Are you guys as excited as I am for this one?
I hope inFAMOUS 2 looks a lot better than inFAMOUS 1. The animations were horrible.
i saw some screenshots of infamous 2 and the graphics are uncharted 2 standard!
the gameplay is probably gonna be good but i dont care too much for the new character designs. but they did say everythings open for change so that’s good i guess.
