A PlayStation 1 action game has received an official launch window for the PlayStation 5. The action game will launch as a trilogy collection. It will also be available on Nintendo Switch 2 and on PC via Steam.
Edia has announced that they will launch the PS1 game Toshinden Collection on PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and PC in 2027. This collection will feature the first three games from the franchise with modern features for the consoles. However, Toshinden Subaru (Toshinden 4) and other spin-offs of the PS1 action game are not included in the collection.
According to the description of the collection, “Battle Arena Toshinden, Battle Arena Toshinden 2, and Battle Arena Toshinden 3, the global hit games originally released by Takara as the first 3D fighting games on PlayStation, are making a comeback on modern platforms! With same-screen multiplayer support, players can relive fond memories together with loved ones. This is a must-play for fans of retro games and fighting games alike!”
What can PS5 players expect from the Toshinden Collection?
Along with the original trilogy of the PlayStation 1 action game, fans can expect much more from the Toshinden Collection, coming to the PS5 and other modern consoles next year.
The games in the Toshinden Collection are known for their 3D fighting presentation, making the franchise one of the titles that helped establish 3D fighting games as a major genre in the early years.
This new collection would allow gamers to revisit the series’ battles in the game. As stated above, the same-screen multiplayer feature would allow gamers to duel in battles locally. All of these features will be revived for modern platforms, with modern features while preserving its retro fighting style.
That said, Edia has not yet announced what the new or added features will be. Moreover, although the game has received a release window, the official release date has not been provided by the developers.
The Battle Arena Toshinden game was first released in 1995 on PlayStation. Due to its early success, Battle Arena Toshinden 2 was released for the console in 1996. This was followed by Battle Arena Toshinden 3 in 1997, along with many spin-offs.
