Sony’s PlayStation 3 has sold over five-million units in Japan, reaching the milestone in three-and-a-half years. According to Enterbrain numbers, the console achieved 5,001,598 sold units in its home country on 11 April. In comparison, the Nintendo Wii accumulated five-million unit sales in Japan at the beginning of 2008.
After its 11 November 2006 launch, the PS3 has had a number of top performing video game titles, with the list led by Final Fantasy XIII at 1,883,828 copies sold. Metal Gear Solid 4 is in second place with over a million units behind at 706,461. Yakuza 4 comes in third with 526,093 units, despite only releasing three weeks ago and still placing in top ten weekly sales charts.
Lifetime sales for the other two current generation consoles stood at 10,009,736 for the Wii and 1,235,049 for the Xbox 360 as of 28 February. Microsoft be trying, Japan ain’t listening.
