Swedish developer Wych Elm‘s new game is now available on the PlayStation Store. Four years in the making, Silver Pines turns a missing-person case into a survival-horror story.

Silver Pines follows Red Walker, a private investigator who arrives at the titular town of Silver Pines to look for the missing musician Eddie Velvet. The game blends survival horror, resource management, and puzzle-solving to create a unique gameplay experience. It also borrows level-design principles from Metroidvanias, encouraging players to explore the setting and discover hidden paths.

The game uses a cinematic 2.5D perspective, inspired by shows like The X-Files and Twin Peaks. The game uses a very limited palette, which adds to the claustrophobic atmosphere created by its limited camera perspective.

The game is available on Steam (and verified for Steam Deck), the Epic Games Store, Xbox Series consoles, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. The standard version is currently available at a 10% discount across all platforms.

Silver Pines arrives after four years of development from a veteran indie team

Wych Elm developed Silver Pines. The team includes Linus Larsson, Wych Elm co-founder; Mattias Snyg, co-founder and artist/animator; and Karl Flodin, composer and sound designer. The 5-person team behind the indie title drew inspiration from a wide range of Lynchian media. Larsson revealed, “We were feeling very inspired by ’90s cinema and TV shows (8MM, The X-Files, Twin Peaks, Jacob’s Ladder).”

The team consists of developers who have worked on games like The Darkness and Helldivers. During a Reddit AMA, Larsson and his team opened up about how that experience affected production. Regarding how the team operated, Snyg said, “From a company perspective, we don’t have a leader as such, though we rely on each other’s expertise when it comes to the different areas of making games. Everyone has a say on any topic, and most of the time we reach some form of consensus, or at least a majority view that settles the question.”
