One of the biggest concerns PlayStation 3 owners have with Sony’s motion technology is the fear that developers will try to force the technology into their games in an awkward way. This concern is definitely valid considering how the SixAXIS motion control was put into games it shouldn’t have been placed in just to add a gimmick opportunity within gameplay. While motion gaming has proven to work well when used properly (Kai in Heavenly Sword), it has also been used in a completely failure of a way (slide/dive in The Show).
Sony, however, understand this concern and has expressed that they have no desire to want Move incorporated within all of its titles. SCE Researcher Richard Marks told CVG that the company doesn’t want to “force” move on its consumer.
“I don’t want that to happen. I love the Move but it’s not the only controller on our platform. We have a great controller already – the DualShock – and some experiences are supposed to be used with that.
“A new set of experiences that use more special input – that’s what’s good for the Move. So I think our first-party will always continue to court both controllers.”
He added: “I do not want to see somebody just force the Move on to a game that it doesn’t make sense for.”
After watching the E3 presentations, I got the sense that Sony firmly believes this because they didn’t show off any titles where Move may have looked forced or just didn’t work. Instead, we got to see titles like Tiger Woods and Sorcery take advantage of what the Move is capable of.
Hearing Kevin’s speech and now this. It’s clear that sony won’t pull a “nintendo wii” and forget about the core gamers.
I really like this strategy of having two kind of experiences on the same platform.
That works I know fitness is the new thing. But when I come home from a hard day work moving my arms and jumping around is the last thing on my mind. Good move on sony part and as, for Xbox well that what you get for trying to be like sony like 7 years ago. Yeah Kincet is a remake of the PS2 eyetoy.
I think the Move is great and all, but for us taller folk it’s not a very realistic way to play unless our TV’s are mounted 5+ feet in the air; however my TV’s are all about the same height for sitting on your ass and not having to look up or down.
I’m glad Sony isn’t going overboard and putting Move in all of their games. I wish Nintendo did that. I love games like Mario, Zelda, etc., but I hate motion controls.
