It took quite some time to finally see Final Fantasy VII and VIII arrive on the PlayStation Network in Japan, but more importantly in Europe and North America. However, Square Enix has revealed that you can expect Final Fantasy IX to makes its way to the download platform some time soon as well.

Tweeting from its Twitter account, Square Enix announced in English that fans of the series can expect FFIX to be given the go ahead within the next two days. Of course, this release is only for Japan, with a North American and European release on the horizon, yet not official as of yet.

“2 more days till the greenlight of FF9 on PSN in Japan.”

This is awesome news for PSP owners as nothing beats playing some of the more memorable FF games in the franchise on the go. I know a lot of you will pick it up on the PS3, but it’s definitely going to be a sweet asset to have on the move — legally (I’m looking at you CFW people!).

I already have it on disc but this is fantastic news. I really urge people who are new to Final Fantasy, especially with the PS2/PS3 era, to pick this one up. It really feels like a return to its roots with some modern features that keep it a refreshing experience. It also has Nobuo Uematsu behind the music which really lost its way after he left Square Enix. XII and XIII have nothing on his work and it’s quickly apparent even after the opening song. It’s also been stated that IX is Sakaguchi’s favorite 😉

So yes, pick this up quickly and experience Final Fantasy while it still had its “magic” going on.

  3. So many Final Fantasy games, so little time.

  4. awesome news! now on to Lunar and VR Missions!!!
