Stuart Black, developer of Bodycount, has recently expressed how little he feels realism should take precedent in gaming over the overall fun factor. In an interview with The Guardian, Black discusses the upcoming title from Codemasters and lets fans that are anticipating the title know that realism isn’t going to be the focus of the game.
“If realism doesn’t help the game, fuck it, throw it away,” said Black. “I don’t want Bodycount to reflect the reality that I’m in, I’ve got enough of that around me. I want to go somewhere else – I want to be lifted up, to forget about my troubles, and escape.”
It doesn’t take much more explaining than that. Chances are, you can expect Bodycount to be an FPS filled with ridiculousness that has no inkling of realism within it. To be honest, this is great news as that’s why most of us play games to begin with. If we wanted to play an FPS with mass realism, we could always join the Army, right?
Good news. If there’s anything I hate about FPSs, it’s how most of them are trying for this realism aspect that just makes them all feel the same. Not that adding anything unrealistic will suddenly fix the genre for me but it might at least make me keep an eye on it and see how it turns out.
Good news, might be interested in this game, especially if it got healthpacks, no cover system and fun weapons.
lol imagine if every shooter was like, 1 shot and your dead…kinda like real life …XD
Fuck yeah.
is this an exclusive?
I like over-the-top shooters, unless they’re Call of Duty.
Fuck YOU!!!
Call Of Duty is fake as hell. When did you see a soldier in real life on lightweight running with tactical knife? so Fuck realism is a bad idea sometimes.
“is this an exclusive?”
No
Everything is better when its non-realistic. IMO Casual Players are the one who complain about something not being realistic or not.
Fuck is that really your twat word as an american????????????????
You have to have a balance of realism and fantasy in order to truely have an enjoyable game. The fantasy part of the game obviously allows us as gamers to enjoy the games, but the realism makes it easier to connect with the game and challenges us to keep getting better.
No game can be purly fantasy or realistic, especially if the developers want it to be successful.
That aside, I personally feel like developers should try to tap into the 3rd person shooter genre more. It has far more potential than a 1st person shooter and hardly any shooters are 3rd person.
I agree, too many games are opting for the realism approach and most of the old classic games didnt and look how fun they are. these days i end up getting frustrated at games and i would rather play something fun either it was realistic or not ( thats why i understood wot david cage was talking about). some games realism is gd like grand turismo but something like gta. meh no thanks
