Yesterday, VG247 reported that Microsoft will be prohibiting attendees at the Natal conference from taking photos or video at the event. This was definitely unexpected considering they were giving out live coverage of the event last year when unveiling Natal to the general public for the first time. Sony on the other hand is not “camera shy” at all.
“We’re very hands-on with Move, we’re not camera-shy” a Sony rep told Develop. “We are showcasing a range of games that showcase Move’s broad range of experiences, and so we have no issue with allowing people to see Move and record what they like.”
This open nature shows that Sony has enough confidence in its motion technology to the point that they have no issue with attendees sharing it around the web. However, Microsoft’s approach can mean one of two things; either its technology isn’t anywhere close to ready for proper public consumption or they’re not happy enough with the product for it to be put on the world wide stage like PlayStation Move.
It’s going to be very hard to raise consumer confidence when you’re not even willing to allow people to see the current progress that your technology has made. We’ll see how this one pans out come E3 though as we’re sure leaked coverage will hit the internet at some point.
Lmao. Natal is a failure in video game right from the get go.
Thats odd because the last event microsoft held to showcase natal they provided every attendee with a free flip camcorder to record the demonstrations. Ill try to find the link.
Yeah — I believe I read something like that as well. No clue what Microsoft is doing now for E3 and why they’re taking that approach.
Heres the link if your interested http://tinyurl.com/2963wyb
Lol. At the Sony Seattle Move Event they allowed cameras and videos and most of the games were barely over 25% complete. That shows Sony’s confidence in their product to me.
I’m hoping Microsoft has good reason for hiding Natal.
@chatham: indeed, the socom 4 gameplay was BADASS
idk what MS is scheming…..i mean why do they want to hide it now? they already showed the damn thing a year ago! But ive a feeling someone WILL sneak past their security and take a pic or two….
somebody will find a way to leak the natal infomation. But who? o_o
Hasn’t Microsoft scheduled two E3 conferences? This being the first (before E3)
I bet I know why they are hiding it. The lack of the micro-processor in the cam. All videos we have seen of Natal was before they removed the processor in the cam to reduce the MSRP. It probably has affected performance, as all the computing has to be done by the 360. A process that already was confirmed to take up 15% of its processing resources. They may not like the end result, and therefore are only going to show it to the public under very specific conditions.
I know why. The main reason is because of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TFZ6KdGtTI. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFAK8ubYtZE&feature=related. The reason is because its staged and not real. It’s fake and if public take picture they can easy see that its not the same as on the screen etc.
I think developers are not happy the way NATAL has turned out, i mean its Laggy. so they dont want their game to be showcased on a device that lag, and MS doesn’t have any games ready to show at E3……. this is my Reasoning …..NATALag
Whatever the reason, it’ll be interesting to see the kind of feedback once the conference is over and I’m sure the truth will come out whether we get video feed or not. Maybe they don’t want the internet to go crazy and poke fun at their conference again 🙁
Sounds like a failure to me.
