A newly revealed GTA 6 feature could make committing crimes more challenging for players. The upcoming open-world game is being developed and published by Rockstar Games.

Police behavior in GTA 6 will be more sophisticated than in previous installments of the franchise. In previous games, players could often evade police by breaking away from a chase and waiting for their wanted level to disappear. However, escaping the police may be more difficult in the new game, according to GamesRadar.

How will GTA 6 police identify suspects after a crime?

In Leonida, police will track identifying details such as suspects’ appearances, clothing, and weapons. Police can also use CCTV footage and information about getaway vehicles to identify and pursue suspects. The AI cops can also track whether a suspect acted alone or with an accomplice.

These changes point to a more sophisticated police AI system in Grand Theft Auto VI. Older games in the series generally featured more predictable police AI. They had a fixed line-of-sight or a constant radius circle. These mechanics often made it easier for players to evade the police, who would eventually abandon the chase. That may no longer be the case in GTA 6.

GTA 6’s single-player campaign will feature two primary protagonists, Jason and Lucia. They will both be seen as a couple. They work together on various criminal ventures. “But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida,” reads the official description.

Beyond the main story, players will be able to explore a range of side activities, including scuba diving, airboating, jumping, and kayaking. They can also visit zoos, work out in gyms, compete in street or off-road racing, and more.

GTA 6 will launch for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
